This site faces various key challenges – its location next to a major expressway, limiting a long and narrow site configuration as well as an undulating site profile.
 
The houses present themselves as two crisp geometric forms overlooking the expressway. The simplicity of the form is in strong contrast with their ornate sub-urban neighbors, giving these twin bungalows a dignified presence and prominence.

The ‘solidity’ of the front enclosure progressively opens up to courtyards and gardens at the rear of the site, as a direct response to the site context. The artful interplay of solid and void result in a delightful spatial experience throughout the house plan, enriched by abundant natural light and ventilation.
